Smudging
Sometimes we feel stuck, negative, or even depressed. This may be due to some stale energy in your emotional, energetic, mental, spiritual or physical body. It could also be stuck energy in your environment, your home, office, or other physical spaces.
Smudge to get that energy moving and flowing again!
Smudging is an ancient ceremony in which you burn sacred plants, such as sage, Sweet Grass and Palo Santo, to allow the smoke to clear and bless a space. As the smoke from smudging rises it is believed that our prayers too will rise to be seen, heard, and to be remembered. The clarifying smoke released from smudging herbs, emit negative ions that can uplift our mood and purify people, places and even objects.
Sweet Grass is burned to promote happiness, open heartedness and harmony. Sweet grass is a plant that bends when walked upon but doesn’t break, it symbolizes kindness and reminds us to hold kindness in our hearts and not react with hostility when faced with injustice.
Palo Santo is known to bring a grounded and clear feeling when burned. Palo Santo can eliminate negative energy, creating a calmer, more tranquil space, it will welcome creativity, love, and good fortune into your space. The wood can help brighten energy and promote feelings of positivity and joy. The scent is also shown to reduce stress and anxiety.
White Sage helps us go through rough changes, eliminates negative thoughts and moves stale energy. White Sage enhances intuition and is a purifying herb. It keeps bacteria, viruses, and fungi away and also repels insects.
How to Smudge
- Collect your tools and open a window.
- Set an intention about what you want to clear.
- Light one end and rotate it in a circular motion around the flame so it’s fully lit.
- Gently wave the feather through the smoke. Start by smudging all corners, doorways, sacred objects and any other areas of your space that you feel need an energy clearing.
- Move from corner to corner, removing any bad energy, uplifting your spirit, and filling up with good fortune.
- When finished, run the feather through the smoke one last time to clear away any undesired energy.
- Close the window to seal in the good vibes.
Some beautiful intentions you can use while smudging :
“May my hands be cleansed, that they create beautiful things. May my feet be cleansed, that they might take me where I most need to be. May my heart be cleansed, that I might hear its messages clearly. May my throat be cleansed, that you might speak rightly when words are needed. May my eyes be cleansed, that you might see the signs and wonders of the world. May this person and space be washed clean by the smoke of these fragrant plants.
And may that same smoke carry our prayers, spiraling, to the heavens.”-Bess O´connor-
“I Release any attachments, negativity, or density into the light so that I can shine with my highest possible vibration and embody my highest authenticity. Anything that is not in alignment with this highest truth and light, let it be cleansed and released into the light of the divine.”-Melanie Beckler-
